Route description
The starting point is Rigi Scheidegg at 1,641 metres, reached by the mountain railway from Kräbel. Right at the beginning, at kilometre 0.1, lies the highest point of the route at 1,647 metres; after that the profile stays remarkably even, with a mere 217 metres between the lowest and highest points.
The path leads through the Löcher and crosses the Hinder Dosse saddle at kilometre 1.3. Via Rigi Unterstetten at kilometre 3.6 the route reaches Rigi Kaltbad at kilometre 5.8 and ends after 6.7 kilometres at 1,436 metres.
There are no climbs worth mentioning; the steepest section is a mere seven per cent. Technically the hike therefore makes no demands; neither a sure step nor a head for heights is needed. It is recommended from May to October.
At the finish the Hotel-Restaurant Alpina invites you to a break. As both ends are served by a mountain railway, the tour is straightforward to plan. On the way it passes through the municipalities of Gersau, Vitznau and Weggis.
