2. Principles

Protecting your personal data matters to us. We process personal data in accordance with the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP). We collect only as much data as is needed to run this website and to answer your enquiries.

3. Hosting and server log files

This website is hosted by a hosting provider (Namecheap). When you visit the site, access data is automatically stored in server log files, as is technically unavoidable with any web server. This includes in particular:

  • the anonymised or truncated IP address of the requesting device,
  • the date and time of access,
  • the page or file requested,
  • the browser and operating system used.

This data serves solely to keep the website secure and stable. It is not combined with other data sources or used for advertising.

4. Contact and partner forms

When you send us a message via the form on the «Contact» or «Become a partner» pages, we process the details you provide (company, name, email address, telephone number and your message) in order to answer your enquiry. The message is transmitted to us by email.

We do not pass this data on to third parties and use it solely to deal with your request. It is deleted as soon as it is no longer needed for this purpose and no statutory retention obligations apply.

4a. Ordering the magazine

When you order the printed edition, we process the details required for this (name, delivery address, email address, telephone number and the quantity ordered) in order to fulfil your order, dispatch the magazine and issue the invoice. This data is retained for order processing and for the duration of statutory retention periods (in particular for accounting records). It is passed on only where necessary for dispatch and payment processing (for example to the postal service).

5. Cookie notice and cookies

On your first visit, a short notice bar («cookie banner») appears at the bottom of the screen. This website, however, sets no tracking cookies and uses no analytics or tracking services (no Google Analytics, for example); no usage profiles are created.

Your confirmation («Got it») is stored solely in your own browser (localStorage), purely so that the notice bar does not reappear on every visit. No cookie is set and no data is transmitted to us or to third parties. You can remove this entry at any time by clearing the site data in your browser settings.

6. Fonts and resources

All fonts, scripts and other resources are served locally from our own server. No external content delivery networks (CDNs) or third-party font services are used, so no data is transmitted to third parties when a page loads.

6a. Interactive maps

On the hike pages you can optionally open an interactive map. Only once you actively expand it are map tiles loaded from swisstopo (geo.admin.ch); at that point your IP address is transmitted to swisstopo, as is technically unavoidable with any map service. As long as you do not open the map, no such transmission takes place. The map software (Leaflet) is hosted locally.

The overview map at /karte/ shows a swisstopo national map as soon as the page loads; here too the map tiles are loaded from geo.admin.ch. The location button on this map requests your location only after you click it and only with your consent in the browser; your location is neither stored nor transmitted.

7. External links

This website may contain links to external websites (for example to a map service or to the websites of partner businesses). We have no influence over their content or data processing; the privacy policies of the respective providers apply. Such sites are only opened when you actively click on them.

8. Your rights

Under the applicable data protection law you have the right to information about the data processed about you, and to have it corrected or deleted. To exercise these rights, please contact the data controller named above.

9. Changes

We may amend this privacy policy at any time to reflect changed legal or technical circumstances. The version published on this page at the time applies.
