From St. Karl down to Illgau
6.8 kilometres with 555 metres of descent: this hike leads from the St. Karl top station at 1,178 metres down into the village of Illgau at 816 metres. Two hours with a short counter-climb at the beginning.

Route description
The starting point is the St. Karl top station at Steinweid. Via the Schlössli and Oberberg the path first climbs; from kilometre 1.7 a climb of 95 metres follows.
The path crosses the Hasentobelbach in the Hasentobel at kilometre 1.8; the steepest section is 13 per cent at kilometre 2.1. At kilometre 2.6 the highest point of the route is reached at 1,339 metres.
After crossing the Bettbach and passing through the Hinderist Tobel, the route descends via the Zingelberg, the Tauisberg, Endiberg and Bergli. At kilometre 5.1 it crosses the Mettelbach.
At kilometre 6.3 Illgau is reached; the elevation range is 523 metres. Technically the path remains straightforward, but sturdy footwear is part of the kit. No refreshment stop is recorded along the route. It can be walked from May to October.
