609 metres of ascent in one go, up to 1,906 metres: this loop from the car-free mountain village of Stoos leads up the Fronalpstock and back. Two cable lifts take care of part of the climb, which keeps the 7.6 kilometres very manageable.

Route description

The starting point is the mountain village of Stoos at 1,306 metres. The climb begins at once and is among the steepest in the region: the steepest passage comes as early as kilometre 0.7 and reaches around 34 per cent.

Two lifts bridge sections of the climb, first from 1,292 to 1,513 metres, then from 1,511 to 1,906 metres. At kilometre 3 the highest point is reached at 1,906 metres, high above the Frontal.

The way back leads through the Chessel back to the mountain village. There are 618 metres between the lowest and highest points. Technically the path remains straightforward, but the steepness in the lower part calls for sturdy footwear.

At kilometre 5.1 the Alpwirtschaft Laui invites you to a break; further food and drink are available in the mountain village of Stoos. The tour is recommended from May to October.
