Route description

The starting point is Gersau at 436 metres on Lake Lucerne, where the path crosses the Innerer Dorfbach straight away. The climb begins at once and does not ease until the finish: 1,207 metres of ascent over a good seven kilometres.

Via Brand, Vorder Gibel and Brüggen the route gains height steadily, crossing the Röhrlisbach, the Teuffibach and the Usserdorfbach on the way. The steepest passage lies at kilometre 4.0 and reaches around 27 per cent.

Via Breitebnet and Obermatt the path continues, passes Rigi Burggeist at kilometre 6.5 and reaches Rigi Scheidegg at kilometre 7. The highest point lies at 1,647 metres; the elevation range is 1,211 metres.

Some sections require a sure step and sturdy footwear. The Berggasthaus Rigi-Scheidegg awaits at the finish, and because a mountain railway runs from there, the descent is easily arranged. The tour is recommended from May to October.
