Route description

The starting point is Rothenthurm station, which makes getting there particularly easy. As early as kilometre 0.1 the highest point of the loop is reached at 927 metres; after that the terrain stays practically level.

The path crosses the Biber at kilometre 2.1 and leads through the raised-bog landscape, which is regarded as one of the most important mire areas in Switzerland. At kilometre 4.8 the Äussere Altmatt is reached.

After crossing the Chlausenbach the route leads over the Steinstoss at kilometre 6.9 and crosses the Cholbach at kilometre 7.6 before returning to the station.

The lowest point lies at 892 metres; the steepest section is four per cent. Technically the walk makes no demands and is therefore suitable for all ages. It can be walked from April to November. Food and drink are available in Rothenthurm at the start and finish.
