What to expect
The Mineral Baths & Spa Rigi Kaltbad opened in 2012 and continue a bathing tradition that goes back to the 16th century. The healing effect of the Kaltbad spring was described as early as 1540. Today an indoor pool hall leads straight into the outdoor pool, joined by a herbal steam bath and a spa area with sauna and crystal bath that is open to guests aged 16 and over. A bistro serves bathers until 7 pm.
The ticket includes the ride on the cogwheel railway from Vitznau or Arth-Goldau or on the cable car from Weggis, plus admission to the baths. If you like, go up to Rigi Kulm first, walk a stretch and only then get into the water. The cogwheel railway takes a quarter of an hour from Rigi Kulm to Rigi Kaltbad.
Getting there and meeting point
The most direct way is from Weggis: the cable car takes ten minutes, and the entrance to the baths is in the same building as the top station. From Vitznau the cogwheel railway reaches Rigi Kaltbad in around twenty minutes; the station is a few minutes' walk from the baths. From Arth-Goldau you change at Rigi Kulm or Rigi Staffel onto the train to Rigi Kaltbad. With a GA travelcard or Swiss Travel Pass the train ride is already paid for, the admission to the baths is not.
Good to know
Bathing ends half an hour before closing time. From 8 to 10 am the baths are reserved for hotel guests. Children under 16 may use the mineral and steam baths only when accompanied by an adult; small children need swim nappies. Towels and bathrobes can be hired. Photography and mobile phones are banned throughout the building. The facility is barrier-free; access from Weggis is via lifts. When the cable car is being overhauled, the ticket is valid on the cogwheel railway from Vitznau.
Tip: The outdoor pool is at its finest in winter, when snow lies on the walls and dusk falls over the lake. The baths stay open until 8 pm, and the last cable car to Weggis leaves later.
