The Erlebnisregion Mythen brings together calm and activity, tradition and the present, nature and community. Here there are places for quiet moments as well as for sporting challenges. Between wide moorlands, historic village centres, majestic mountains and near-natural paths, it is a region with plenty of room for shared experiences.
Enjoying time out
If you are looking for peace and quiet, the Auszeitweg in Rothenthurm is just the place. Amid calm landscapes this trail opens up impressive views of the Rothenthurm raised bog and invites you to slow down. The Ibergeregg moorland, a protected natural area with a character of its own, also fascinates with its special vegetation and wide expanses of bog.
The Hopfräben nature reserve lies right where the Muota flows into Lake Lucerne, in Brunnen. It serves not only as a refuge for rare plants and animals but also as a leisure and recreation area for local people. A bathing spot, a fire pit and the nearby playground invite you to get together. If you want to learn more about the history, the circular trail «Steinen – damals und heute» takes you to historic places and old waymarks.
For the active
Anyone out for sport in the Erlebnisregion Mythen is rewarded for every metre of ascent with new views. The Helsana Trailrun Rotenflue stands for the countless trail-running options: the course follows natural paths through alpine terrain, past the Grosser Mythen, alternating between technically demanding sections and open stretches.
The region is also a true hiking paradise. The range extends from the spectacular Mythen hike and tours around the two Mythen to leisurely outings across green alpine pastures. The offering is rounded off by varied mountain-biking options, from easy routes for beginners to technically demanding trails.
The region can also be experienced in a special way on Lake Lucerne: from mid-June to the end of August, the Sunset Canoe Tour every Friday evening combines sporting activity with a nature experience that slows the pace right down.
Family experiences
Families will find plenty of options in the Erlebnisregion Mythen. On the Glückspilzweg in Steinerberg children and adults explore the surroundings together, with playful elements providing the learning effect. The Spinnerei Ibach offers space for play and meeting with its bouldering hall, spacious children's playground and café area.
On the Geissä Wäg at Sattel-Hochstuckli, encounters with animals take centre stage: after the ride up, the trail leads in around 45 minutes past seven interactive stations to the Blüemlisberg goat farm. And in rainy weather the Forum of Swiss History, the Museum of the Swiss Charters or the Ital Reding House offer a museum experience for the whole family.
